Jungwon Jin

Hailed by The Sydney Herald for her “regality and impeccable control,” Dr. Jungwon Jin is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist whose artistry combines commanding virtuosity, expressive depth, and refined musicality. From her remarkable professional debut with the Seoul Philharmonic at age twelve to recent performances on major European stages, her career has been defined by a lifelong commitment to musical excellence and artistic discovery.

Jungwon made her professional debut at the age of twelve with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1. At fifteen, she and her piano trio won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Aberdeen International Music Festival for their performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50.

Her musical formation brought together distinguished traditions of American and French piano playing. She studied at The Juilliard School with Olegna Fuschi, György Sándor, and Martin Canin, pursued advanced studies with Constance Keene at the Manhattan School of Music, and earned her Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Southern California under Nancy Bricard. During her 2019–2020 sabbatical, she continued her artistic studies in Paris with renowned French pianists Désiré N’Kaoua and Cécile Ousset, while conducting extensive research on the piano works of Maurice Ravel.

Jungwon’s international performing career spans North America, Europe, and Asia, with appearances at distinguished concert venues including Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall in New York. Recent European engagements include performances with the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at Smetana Hall in Prague and with the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra at Liszt Hall in Budapest. Her concert engagements have also taken her to Poland, Austria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Azerbaijan, Vietnam, Korea, and beyond.

An award-winning pianist, Jungwon has received recognition in the Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, and USC Concerto Competitions, the Young Artist Guild Competition, the IBLA Grand Prize in Sicily, and the Louise McMahone Competition. She was also honored with the Most Distinguished Music Award at the IBLA International Competition.

Her artistry is also represented through her recordings, including Selected Solo Highlights from the Sydney International Piano Competition and In Search of Light: Works of Claude Debussy. Her interpretations of Debussy and Rachmaninoff have been recognized for their elegance, dynamic control, and expressive refinement.

Her repertoire embraces the great traditions of Classical, Romantic, and French piano literature, with particular affinity for Chopin, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Debussy, and Ravel. Across this repertoire, she seeks a distinctive balance of technical mastery, emotional depth, and poetic expression.

Alongside her international performing career, Jungwon serves as Professor of Music and Director of Piano Studies at Santa Ana College, where she continues to mentor young musicians and share her experience with the next generation of pianists.
