About Jungwon

Hailed by The Sydney Herald for her “regality and impeccable control,” Dr. Jungwon Jin is recognized as one of Southern California’s premier piano performers and educators.

Jungwon serves as a Professor of Music and Director of the Piano Department at Santa Ana College. During her 2019–2020 sabbatical, she focused on the works of Maurice Ravel. Currently, she is preparing to perform Chopin’s Piano Concertos No. 1 and No. 2, which she will present in June 2025 at Vienna’s historic Ehrbar Hall.

Her illustrious career began at age twelve with a debut performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 alongside the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. By fifteen, she and her piano trio won first prize and the Audience Prize at the Aberdeen International Music Festival for their remarkable interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50.

Jungwon’s formal education includes studies at the Juilliard School under Olegna Fuschi, György Sándor, and Martin Canin. She pursued advanced training with Constance Keene at the Manhattan School of Music and earned her Doctorate from the University of Southern California under Nancy Bricard.

An award-winning pianist, Jungwon has garnered accolades in numerous prestigious competitions, including the Juilliard, Manhattan School, and USC Concerto Competitions, the Young Artist Guild Competition, and international competitions such as the IBLA Grand Prize (Sicily) and the Louise McMahone Competition. She received the Most Distinguished Music Award from the IBLA International Competition.

Jungwon has graced renowned stages such as Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall in New York, earning critical acclaim for her artistry. Her recordings—Selected Solo Highlights from the Sydney International Piano Competition and In Search of Light: Works of Claude Debussy—have been lauded for their elegance and dynamic precision, with her interpretations of Debussy and Rachmaninoff receiving particular praise from The Sydney Herald.

As a soloist, Jungwon has performed with esteemed orchestras worldwide, including the Athens Philharmonic (Greece), Azerbaijan State Symphony, Culver City Chamber Orchestra, Elbląg Chamber Orchestra (Poland), Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, Olympia Orchestra (Italy), Pasadena Orchestra, San Bernardino Symphony, Sun Symphony (Vietnam), and Symphony Irvine.
